After Blizzard announced the closure of its office in France, local trade unions called on employees to go on strike. According to the organizations, the company just wants to get away from European taxes. This became known from a joint statement of three trade union organizations, including the General Confederation of Labor (CGT), which represent the interests of Blizzard employees in France.

They accuse the company of not informing employees of its decision in advance.

As a result of the closure of the office, 285 people will be left without work. Trade unions believe that such a decision is unacceptable in a difficult economic situation. The organizations called on employees to go on strike to “defend our jobs and our company.”

“It was a real shock for the employees, as they simply did not expect such news. Many of us have moved from our home countries from all over Europe to join the company. Over the past 15 years, people have literally invested their lives in the success of Blizzard,” the trade unions said in their appeal.

The closure of the office in Versailles became known last week. Blizzard cited Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic as the main reasons. However, the unions believe that the company is hiding its true motives.

According to the organizations, “a more likely explanation for the situation is the desire to avoid European taxes by transferring their activities from Europe to London.” Trade unions called Blizzard’s decision “incomprehensible” and “absurd”, since the company’s revenues, on the contrary, have grown significantly due to the pandemic.

On October 13 and 14, Blizzard had scheduled meetings on the closure of the Versailles office and the possible transfer of some employees to London. However, the final decision of the company is not yet known.
