In recent days, Ubisoft has prepared a number of measures to support its Ukrainian employees. In particular, the company will provide housing in neighboring countries to employees and their families. Also, the publisher has already allocated € 200 thousand for humanitarian aid to citizens of Ukraine. Ubisoft announced this on March 1 on its official website.
The company made a statement in both English and Ukrainian.
“Ubisoft employees around the world are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic events in Ukraine. For many of our colleagues, Ukraine is their home, and the thoughts of the entire community of our company are with them, their loved ones and everyone who has suffered from this [Roskomnadzor],” the statement reads.
Here are the actions the company has taken so far (it has already stated some of them earlier):
- Back in mid-February, Ubisoft recommended that Ukrainian employees “ensure their stay in a place they consider safe.”to do this, the company allocated additional funds to cover emergency costs and paid employees a salary in advance to prepare for possible failures in the operation of banking systems;
- now Ubisoft is also ready to provide “alternative housing in neighboring countries” to employees and their families who want and will be able to leave the country;
- the publisher has created a special hotline and crisis communication system to provide additional assistance and communication with colleagues in Ukraine;
- As an additional measure, the company donated €200,000 to the Red Cross and Save the Children.
- This money will be used for medical care, shelter and food.Ubisoft is not the first gaming company that has decided to help Ukraine.
Earlier, Playrix put all its Ukrainian employees on paid leave. Publisher G5 Entertainment also declared its readiness to protect its Ukrainian employees, and Wargaming announced assistance to Kiev employees with relocation and donated $1 million to the Ukrainian Red Cross.
In addition, dozens of game studios around the world have expressed support for Ukraine and local developers. Among them are 11 bit studios, CD Projekt RED, Raw Fury, Bungie, as well as Ukrainian GSC Game World and Frogwares.
Also recently it became known that the platform for indie games itch.io prepares a special charity bundle in support of Ukraine. Now the developers are sending applications for participation, and all funds from the sale of titles in the bundle will go to the International Medical Corps and the Voices of Children Foundation.
At the same time, some companies not only support Ukrainian employees and citizens, but also protest with their games. On March 2, insider and journalist Tom Henderson said that Electronic Arts would remove Russian teams from the titles of the FIFA and NHL series. The company itself has not yet commented on this information.
