The idea of a platform for game streaming came to the creators of Twitch after watching webcasts of games in the beta version of Starcraft 2 on the Justin website.tv in 2009.
This was told by the CEO and co-founder of Twitch Emmett Shear (Emmett Shear).
“Like many fans of StarCraft: Brood War, I have been waiting for the sequel to be released for more than 10 years. When the beta of StarCraft 2 appeared in 2009, many began to broadcast the gameplay on Justin.tv , and it hooked me. I started to wonder — is it possible to focus entirely on streaming game content? It was StarCraft 2 that became the first incentive for Twitch,” Shire said.
Justin video hosting.tv existed from 2007 to 2014. The service competed with YouTube and specialized in online broadcasts.
In 2011, the creator of Justin.tv Justin Kan (Justin Kan) together with Emmett Shire founded Twitch, which has now become the leading platform for game streaming.
