The Finnish developer Remedy has returned the IP Alan Wake. Prior to that, the exclusive rights to publish franchise projects belonged to Microsoft.

The transfer of the trademark is associated with the payment of €2.5 million in royalties to Remedy as a one-time income from previously released projects.

The royalties will be paid to the studio during the second half of 2019. Nothing specific is said about the deal to return Alan Wake in her press release.

Previously, only Microsoft could decide the fate of projects within the IP, but now Remedy has the rights to release a remake of the game or even a full-fledged sequel. However, Remedy is now closely engaged in the upcoming release of Control, reports Gamesindustry.biz .

Alan Wake is a horror movie of 2010, released on Xbox 360, and later on PC. The game received high marks from many media outlets and earned the love of the audience. Two years later, a storyline spin-off of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare was released for her.
