The developers of Epic Quest of the 4 Crystals distributed free keys to games on Steam in exchange for reviews from users. Valve considered this a violation of the Steam rules and removed all reviews of the game.
The developers themselves, RosePortal Games studio, called it a “promotional campaign”. The creators of Steam, Valve, did not agree with the wording. On the game ‘s forum , they reported the following: “It has come to our attention that Aldorlea Games and RosePortal Games distributed gifts and in other ways compensated some of the Steam users for reviews of the Epic Quest of the 4 Crystals game. These are frauds with the feedback system, and we do not allow this.”
After that, the company deleted all reviews of the game. Some of them were probably left by users who really liked the project. Valve offered them to share their opinion again.
The Kotaku resource notes that the case of RosePortal Games is one of many. There are many “violators” of the Steam rules, and the list is being updated. This is probably because the Valve rulebook is too extensive, and it is difficult for developers to understand it to the end.
