Construction simulators about amusement parks continue to be in demand. In less than six months, Taikun Planet Zoo achieved sales of one million copies on PC at a base price of $45.
Planet Zoo
The information became known from the press release of Frontier Developments, the publisher and developer of the game.
In it, the Cambridge-based company announces a revision of its financial forecasts for the outcome of the current fiscal year, which is due to end for it on May 31.
Due to the success of Planet Zoo, whose release was the most successful in the history of Frontier Developments, the annual revenue of the entire company may be £11-13 million more than previously predicted (initially it was about £65-73 million).
As a result: the British bet on taikuns about amusement parks continues to work. Earlier, the same Frontier Developments also successfully launched similar Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution. The first one in January had a circulation of 2.5 million, and the second one — 3 million.
The company’s success is now based on three factors. The first is high quality. The second is a similar product operating scheme to Paradox (high price tag, rare and small discounts, long and regular release of paid DLC with content important for gameplay). The third is the relative emptiness in the niche: there is no great competition here.
Remark: at the same time, the company itself did not start with the release of taikuns, but with a much more hardcore story — the release of the cosmosim Elite Dangerous, which, even after five years of operation, is actively supported by the Frontier Developments team.
