The Chinese corporation Tencent acquired 9% of the British studio Frontier Developments for $ 23 million. Frontier Developments is known as the creator of the space simulator Elite: Dangerous.

According to Frontier, the money from the deal will be used to replenish the studio’s budget, hire new employees and expand the game portfolio.

Tencent’s Chief strategy Officer James Mitchell noted that the popularity of games about space and amusement parks is growing in China, and Frontier Developments is developing titles in these genres.

Tencent owns Riot Games, as well as shares in Supercell, Miniclip, Epic Games, Netmarble and Paradox Interactive, and is also the most profitable public company in the global video game industry.
