The clones won’t pass. Leading app stores have “blocked the oxygen” to numerous copies of the new game by the creator of Flappy Bird.
Dong Nguyen has a talent for gaming sensations. His Flappy Bird marked the trend of popularizing minimalistic “impossible” games, getting into the top in an unknown (but not the fact that virally) way. Then, already being on the crest of the charts, Dong removed Flappy Bird from the app stores, refusing, “tormented by popularity”, income of $ 50 thousand a day, thereby becoming a star not only of the gaming press.
And so, a new game and a new scandal.
At the time of the release of Swing Copters in the App Store and Google Play, there were already several dozen (if not hundreds) clones of Dong’s creations. This is the first such case in our memory. Usually clones and copies appear some time after the release, but not before. Apparently, Dong’s popularity did him a disservice.
However, this became possible not only because of the status of a “celebrity” Vietnamese programmer. There are two more reasons. Firstly, detailed information about the project and its name became known a few days before the release. Secondly, the project itself is visually and gameplay is not very complex in terms of implementation.
As a result, last Thursday, many users who were looking for a “new game from the author of Flappy Bird” downloaded far from the original project. However, the very next day after the release of Swing Copters, the App Store and Google Play went through the games with a hot iron, trying to play on the popularity of the project.
But if it is almost impossible to find a clone of Swing Copters on the same request in the Apple app store today, then it seems that the cleaning needs to be repeated on Google Play. In any case, this practice allows us to hope that there will be no more success stories built on the complete plagiarism of other people’s projects.
