Prepare for the unexpected. The Steam digital PC games store has published several selections of the best-selling games of the past year. In addition to the obvious titles, like PUBG and ARK, there are enough not so well-known names in it.
There are five selections in total.
2017 sales leaders among all the projects of the site
In this list, divided into four blocks (“Platinum”, “Gold”, “Silver” and “Bronze”), there are 100 games-leaders in terms of sales over the past year. Among the best-selling games (there is no ranking inside the blocks, no specific place is indicated, according to sales), including games such as Divinity Origina Sin II, Warframe and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Sales leaders among games released in 2017
The most extensive list. In it, Steam published which projects among the new products were the most popular in terms of sales by month. For example, in January last year, the sales leaders included Tales of Berseria and Detention, in March – Toukiden 2, and in July – Dream Daddy.
It is this list that is of the greatest interest: you can identify interesting new names for yourself (believe me, there are enough of them here), as well as analyze how they were launched from the pages of the relevant projects.

Steam also published this year a list of the best-selling projects created for a virtual reality game. This list is also divided into four blocks. The “platinum” includes games such as Raw Data, Gorn and Fallout 4 VR. The full list of the twelve highest-grossing VR games looks like this:
The best games released in 2017 from early access
The selection reflecting the most popular games by sales volume among those that came out of early access in 2017 is the most boring and the most anticipated. It is divided into blocks, the “platinum” of which includes Torment: Tides of Numenera, and Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator, and Endless Space 2, and many other projects (including PUBG and ARK), which have received maximum attention from the gaming community throughout the year.
Games with the highest number of players in the game at the same time
The Steam editors divided this collection into four groups according to the number of online players:
- online more than 100 thousand;
- online more than 50 thousand;
- online more than 25 thousand;
- online more than 15 thousand.
Despite the fact that most of the projects that collect the highest number of gamers at the same time are shooters/action games, the second most popular genre within the segment are strategies.
