The tab with games not yet released on Steam has been improved and renamed to “Popular Future Products”. Now this list will be formed taking into account the interests of a particular user to make the search more productive. The developers recognized that when the list was simply replenished with all future titles, it was practically useless.
According to the platform’s press release, the new list will take into account what the user has added to the wish lists, which games he has already bought and which developers and publishers he has subscribed to. If the user marks a project as uninteresting, it will disappear from the list. Also, the player in this list will not be shown what new content has been released to games that he does not own.
At the same time, the unfiltered list with all future titles will also remain available to everyone.
“By viewing it, you can help us make games more visible to others by adding them to your wish list or sharing information about them with friends. We believe that these changes will help you find games that will appeal to you, and viewing the list of games that have not yet been released will become more productive,” the press release says.
In the section “questions and answers” about this innovation, there is a question about how the developer will now be able to make sure that his future game will be seen by users. Steam responds that the old list of future products “was viewed by less than one percent of users, and, for example, almost four percent click on the “Sales Leaders” tab.
“It is clear to us that a brief (sometimes fleeting) appearance on the Steam homepage will not do any good if your game is shown to a random set of users. It will be much better if the game is shown to suitable players who have already demonstrated that they can like your game,” the response says.
In conclusion, Steam recommends to all developers: create a great product with a corresponding page in the store, and users will find it.
