It was recently reported that the new version of Ubuntu 19.10 for Linux will no longer support the Steam launcher. To solve this problem, the authors of the OS decided to use a more conservative approach to development, and it will save the store for Ubuntu.
This news was announced by Valve in the Steam blog. According to her, the above approach will allow updating Ubuntu without affecting the 32-bit x86 architecture. 32-bit libraries, we recall, are necessary to run both the store itself and many games in it that support only 32-bit environments.
Prior to this, Valve was not sure that it would be able to ensure the smooth operation of Steam on the specified OS. But now she has stated that the store will be available to Linux users, at least until the release of Ubuntu 20.04.
Valve admitted that part of the Steam functionality may suffer after the update to 19.10 — and the company is not encouraged by this. But she will be able to continue working on adjusting the Steam distribution model “without a new headache for users.”
