Japanese gaming company SNK has announced a retro Neo Geo mini console. The device looks like a miniature automaton from the era of arcade halls with video games.
The release of the mini-console is timed to the 40th anniversary of SNK.
Neo Geo mini is equipped with a 3.5-inch display, a built-in controller, an HDMI port and two connectors for connecting external controllers.
The console will come in two color schemes — for Japan and the rest of the world.
International version of Neo Geo mini
40 games for the Neo Geo platform are sewn into the memory of the mini-console.
SNK has not yet revealed the release date and a selection of titles, but in the promo materials of the Neo Geo mini, classic arcade system games – King of Fighters and Metal Slug — are launched on the console screen.
Retro trend
Miniature retro consoles have become a new trend in the gaming industry thanks to Nintendo, which has sold several million mini-versions of the NES Classic Edition and Super NES Classic Edition consoles over the past 2 years.
Last month, Sega announced its intention to release a modern remake of the iconic Mega Drive console, the release of which is timed to coincide with the company’s 30th anniversary.
