The initial sales of physical copies of the online shooter Star Wars Battlefront II turned out to be 60% worse than the figures of the first part, released in 2015.
This is partly due to the reduction of the physical retail gaming in general. For example, with record sales of Destiny 2, its physical sales were 50% weaker than sales of the first part.
But today, the decline in physical sales of Battlefront II in the Western media is usually associated, first of all, with the scandal around the loot boxes. Recall, according to gamers, in Star Wars Battlefront II, which is a paid game, there is not only an incorrect balance (pay-to-win), but also a system in which it is difficult to get a particular game character without cash injections.
In response to EA’s policy, players called for a boycott of the game and brought down the rating of Star Wars Battlefront II on the aggregator Metacritic. The situation received such a resonance that Disney, which owns the rights to the Star Wars franchise, intervened in it.
As a result, Electronic Arts temporarily disabled all transactions in Battlefront II and promised to adjust the game balance in accordance with the wishes of gamers.
The international release of Star Wars Battlefront II took place on November 17.
