The next Nintendo console may turn out to be a portable handheld device with removable controllers.
This was reported by Eurogamer with reference to several of its own sources in the Japanese company.
According to unconfirmed information, the gadget will be a high-performance portable solution with its own screen. The control units will be located on both sides of the screen (on the left – the first stick and the crosspiece, on the right – the second stick and four control buttons). If desired, the player will be able to separate the blocks. In addition, the device can be connected to a TV.
Physical versions of games for the console will be distributed on cartridges. Their recommended volume will be 32 GB. Recall that games for 3DS are also distributed on cartridges – small cards.
The console will work on a Tegra family chip from Nvidia. Which one is unclear (there is an opinion that it is based on the Tegra X1 chipset or its updated version). So, most likely, the console will lag behind in technical terms from the current generation of home consoles. In the age of the winning multiplatform – an ambiguous decision.
The announcement of the new product, according to the same rumors, is scheduled for this September. According to official data, the launch of the device is scheduled for March 2017.
The main question is whether the screen will have a sensor. If the answer is yes, the new console may well become an interesting and promising platform for those mobile game developers who have not found hardcore users on iOS and Android who are willing to pay a lot of money for products whose sessions last longer than a few minutes.
