Sony Pictures and Rovio Entertainment are shooting the second part of the full-length animated film The Angry Birds Movie. It will appear on screens on September 20, 2019.

The first picture was released in May 2016. The animated film grossed $352 million at the box office with a budget of $73 million.

The proceeds from the painting and sales of merchandise for the Angry Birds franchise helped increase the Finnish company’s revenues by 55% in 2017.

Rovio CEO Kati Levoranta called 2017 “the best year in the company’s history.”

But at the beginning of 2018, the rise was replaced by a decline. The company began to earn less on the Angry Birds license, and the last three Rovio games did not bring the revenue that their creators expected.

As a result, the company’s projected revenues decreased from €297 million to €260 million.

Against this background, Rovio’s shares fell by half. Soon the company was left by the head of the gaming direction Wilhelm Taht (Wilhelm Taht). Two months later, he was followed by Rauno Heinonen, Vice President of Investor Relations.
