The Finnish company Rovio has closed a branch in the capital of the UK and dismissed its staff of 7 people. The London office lasted a little over a year.
It was assumed that the British branch would develop MMO projects. Rovio even planned to increase the team to 20 people.
But weak financial performance in the last quarter led to the decision to liquidate the division in London, according to Business Insider.
According to Rovio CEO Kati Levoranta, titles such as Angry Birds Match, Angry Birds Evolution and Battle Bay did not meet the company’s expectations, and the growing competition in the mobile games market caused an increase in user acquisition costs.
Last year, Rovio’s revenues went up for the first time in a long time, but since the beginning of 2018, clouds have been gathering over the company again. On February 23, the company’s shares fell by 50%, and a week later, the head of the gaming department, Wilhelm Taht, resigned without explaining the reasons for his decision.
