The publisher of mobile and social games RockYou is again cutting staff in the American branch. 65 people will lose their places.
The layoffs are part of the company’s restructuring, which began in December last year. RockYou is going to shift the focus of attention to the Asian market, and therefore is cutting staff in America.
“Our Indian and Taiwanese branches play a particularly important role in the company’s strategy. And now they will be able to purchase titles directly, without approval from San Francisco,” commented Lisa Marino, CEO of RockYou, on the dismissals.
The strategy in question is as follows: RockYou buys relatively unpopular games with a small but loyal audience. And then distributes advertising to these users using its own advertising grid. The company has been following the strategy since the spring of 2014. Since that moment, RockYou has made a number of serious acquisitions, for example, bought the rights to several popular browser games from Kabam, casino projects Solitaire Arena and Solitaire 3 Arena and a series of titles Westbound and Shipwrecked.
