RockYou, the publisher of mobile and social games, announced a staff reduction in the American branch. 23 people or 10% of the company’s team in the USA will lose their place.
According to RockYou management, the company’s financial performance is at an all-time high. Revenue for the 4th quarter of 2015 was 2 times higher than the results of the 4th quarter of 2014. However, the desire to develop the company and control costs forces the management to dismiss some people.
“[The restructuring] affected 23 people, or 10% of the state in the USA. We have also launched a number of other initiatives in order to reduce costs, as costs have begun to grow at a rate harmful to business,” Lisa Marino, CEO of RockYou, commented on the situation for the Gamasutra resource.
Recall that in the spring of 2014, RockYou began to adhere to a new strategy. The company buys relatively unpopular games with a small but loyal audience. After that, it distributes advertising to the audience using its own advertising grid. Since then, the company has made a number of major acquisitions. In particular, I bought the rights to several popular browser games from Kabam.
