Recently, we have been increasingly touching on the topic of IP. Several interviews have already been published on our pages devoted directly to how you can start working with major brands. But at the same time, we hardly touched on the topic of why it is necessary to spend time and effort on attracting brands today.
Manish Agarwal, the founder of Reliance Games, “the largest mobile game development studio you’ve never heard of,” did it perfectly for us, as our colleague from Venture Beat Dean Takahashi successfully joked. However, you could well play the company’s games: Real Steel and Pacific Rim are her handiwork. Recently, the company launched the runner The Hunger Games: Catching Fire based on the book / movie of the same name.
Speaking in an interview with VentureBeat about a series of mobile games based on Real Steel, whose total downloads reached 50 million, Manish claims that the projects continue to be played despite the fact that the film itself was released three years ago. The DAU of the series at the moment is 1 million.
The merit of such results is not only the quality of projects. The brand played an important role. However, it is important to remember here that you will not get far on the name alone.
“Every day hundreds of games are uploaded to various app stores. The findability of games is our main task. Just getting a promotion from Apple or Google is not a viable model. The game must have something. And when it comes to increasing the findability of games, IP is a huge help,” says Manish.
“For example, when we launched Hunger Games – on the first day we received three to four million installations. Findability is not a problem for us. When you think about the basics of the economy of one or two dollars for each purchased user, such a way of reducing costs can be of serious help. This is exactly the place where IP works well.”
