Two-thirds of developers consider the growing competition in app stores to be the main threat to the mobile industry.
Our colleagues from PocketGamer found out about this by interviewing mobile game developers.
It also turned out that 40% of respondents consider the growth of bones to be a serious problem.
Editor’s note: the cost of development is associated with a constant increase in the bar of requirements for games. Users today need more and more from mobile games. Good graphics, good art, honed balance, integration with social services, constant support, constant updates and powerful servers capable of providing a comfortable game – this is an incomplete list of requirements for a modern game. Angry Birds in this system has long been an anachronism.
The second problem of cost growth is directly related to the already mentioned high competition. If you want to be noticed, pay for the installations. This led to the fact that at the moment the average market price of the user was higher than the average market income from him.
The headache of 37% of developers is free content. There is a lot of it, and those who are not ready to offer it to users are out of business. It upsets them.
There were developers (11%) who believe that consoles can be a threat to their business.
Editor’s note: this is a strange position, since the opposite situation is developing in the market today: console vendors are afraid of the mobile games market. It is widely believed that the current generation of consoles (Xbox One and PS4) is the last. In 5-7 years, the market will be completely different, there will be no place for them.
The old problems related to fragmentation and piracy have lost their relevance. 34% and 20% of respondents consider them a threat to the mobile games market, respectively.
