Swedish publisher Paradox Interactive has acquired an independent studio Harebrained Schemes, known for a series of role-playing games Shadowrun Returns and turn-based tactics BATTLETECH. The transaction amount was $7.5 million.
In addition to the agreed amount, Harebrained Schemes will receive a percentage of their titles’ revenue over the next 5 years.
Harebrained Schemes has established itself as a world-class studio with a talented team. They create games in genres that are interesting to Paradox. In addition, we ourselves really like both the titles of Harebrained Schemes and their authors.

Wester also noted that Harebrained Schemes will have full creative freedom and access to financial, marketing and publishing resources of Paradox.
The head of Harebrained Schemes, Jordan Weissman, added that the partnership with Paradox will provide the studio with financial stability, which will allow the studio team to concentrate on the creative process.
Paradox Interactive reported that the publisher will provide support for the latest title of Harebrained — the tactical strategy of BATTLETECH — with the release of new updates and additional content.
BATTLETECH was released on PC on April 24, 2018. The development of the game was funded through crowdfunding, thanks to which the creators managed to raise more than $ 3.7 million. According to Steam Spy, about 500 thousand players already have a title on Steam alone.
