In August, the Nintendo Switch console for the fourth time in six months outstripped the “older comrades” PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in terms of the number of consoles sold in the United States.

This is reported by the analytical company The NPD Group.

Nintendo Switch’s closest competitor, the Playstation 4, was the leader in sales in May and June.

At the same time, August sales of consoles from all manufacturers were 6% lower than last year and amounted to $168 million.

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, the market is slowing down because of the Xbox. Microsoft will start selling a new generation of Xbox One X console in November, so consumers do not want to buy a set-top box that will technically become obsolete in 2 months.

But in general, over the past year, compared with the previous year, spending on consoles increased by 17% to $ 1.7 billion. The growth drivers were the Nintendo Switch and remakes of retro consoles such as the NES Classic.

NPD predicts another jump in console sales after the release of the Xbox One X.
