Today, on October 19, App Annie published the Russian version of the “Market Report for the 3rd quarter of 2015”. The main thing it testifies to is the current stability of the mobile application market.
As compared to the previous quarter, and with the final results of last year, little has changed in the market
The App Store is still the leader in revenue. Moreover, thanks to his success in China, he managed to increase the gap from Google Play. If in the last quarter the difference was 70%, then in the third – as much as 80%. Good sales of large iPhones in China, by the way, allowed China – if compared with the end of 2014 – to outpace the United States in downloads. However, everything has been going to this for a long time.
Google Play, in turn, overtakes the App Store in downloads. And he continues to widen the existing gap. For this, it is worth saying “thank you” to the smartphone market that has finally come to life in India. However, ordinary mobile handsets still “lead” sales there, and the level of smartphone penetration is low – no more than 15%. The latter, by the way, makes you think about what will happen when the penetration rate jumps. And this will most likely happen in the next couple of years.
Considering that everyone was already late for the Chinese market, and they were so late that he himself began a successful expansion into his native market, India is just the region where, perhaps, there is still a chance to break through and “jump on the outgoing train”.
As for the leading type of applications in terms of downloads, revenue, then, as before, I am leading games on both platforms. Moreover, on Google Play, they also outperform all other types of apps in terms of average session duration. On iOS, games are ahead of music and entertainment apps by this criterion. Plus, it is expected that games lag behind social applications on both platforms in terms of the number of sessions per user.
