Microsoft has made it known that in July next year it will stop all support for its Windows Phone 8 mobile system, whose official release took place in December 2012.

The document on the platform lifecycle has been updated on the official product support page of the company. According to him, the end date of the main support for Windows Phone 7.8 will end on the ninth of September 2014, and Windows Phone 8 on the eighth of July of the same year.

It is clear that by this time Microsoft will not only announce and show, but also release a new version of the platform. Moreover, there is an opinion that this will happen already this year. There are, however, concerns that history may repeat itself with the lack of backward compatibility between platforms, as it happened between versions 7 and 8. However, Microsoft itself assures that this will not happen.

In fact, if we were talking about a new version of Android or iOS now, no one would have any questions or concerns. But after a sharp turn away from Windows Phone 7, the attitude towards Microsoft is, to put it mildly, cautious.

By the way, no one promises the appearance of the 9th version of the platform. The novelty may well be version 8.1, whose life cycle may well last until 2015.

Windows Phone 8 can evolve,” he said in an interview PCMAG.com Greg Sullivan, Microsoft Marketing Manager. In addition, Sullivan noted that the system is now in the middle of its life cycle.
