IAPs from tablets bring three times more money than from smartphones, analysts at Magid Associates found out.

According to a study by this company, the annual volume of gaming micropayments from “tablets” has reached the level of $913 million. For comparison, $341 million has been paid for IAP in smartphone games over the past 12 months.

Magid found out these figures by conducting an online study, according to which 69% of tablet owners regularly play on them, of which 31% are spent on IAP. Over the past year, each of the paying gamers, on average, spent $48 on payments.

There are significantly fewer gamers among smartphone users – 54%. Those who spend on IAP are even less – 19%. On average, they spend $32 a year.

Anyway, the number of players on both platforms is growing. Analysts estimate that there are about 61 million gamers among tablet owners (70% more than last year). Smartphone gamers are slightly less – 54 million (an annual increase of 50%).

Yes, tablet players also download more than those who have fun on a smartphone: 25 games against 20.

Despite the loud statements, we advise you to treat this study with skepticism. The sample, which Magid then extrapolated to the whole world, involved only 2,400 people aged 8 to 64 years.

In addition, the extrapolation of surveys itself is a very controversial mechanism for evaluating the market, given that according to at least App Annie, the only country where the iPad collects more iPhones is Russia. In other regions, the cash register remains for iOS smartphones.
