Ubisoft Reflections studio recruitment specialist Craig Pearn has prepared recommendations for those who are preparing for an interview for employment in a gaming industry company.
While compiling this list, Pirn asked colleagues at Ubisoft Reflections to share experiences that helped them get a job.
Find out in advance where you are getting a job
Before the interview, Pirn advises applicants to find out more about the company where they plan to work. For example, to study its history and play studio games. This behavior tells the employer about the high motivation of the future employee.
Work on your self-presentation
In order to be confident in the interview, Pirn recommends spending a little time preparing your speech. You can practice in front of your friends in advance. You should take a laptop or other device with you to show your achievements on it.
“When you know the topic and can objectively talk about your work experience, you are in a good position,” Pirn said.
Enjoy the interview
You do not need to consider an interview before hiring something like an exam, where you will be judged and evaluated. It’s better to treat this as a conversation and an opportunity to discuss the creation of video games with new people. If you have an interesting discussion, it will increase the chances of further employment.
Don’t be shy to be yourself
There is nothing wrong with telling about yourself, your hobbies and favorite games. This will help the company’s employees to get a more holistic portrait of a future colleague. You can easily find common interests and views.
Ask questions
During the interview, you will not only have to answer questions, but also ask them. If you are asked about something that you are not well versed in, use this opportunity and ask about this topic yourself.
