This is taking into account pirated retro devices under the Dendy and Sega brands.

Despite the pirated status, such products can easily be found even on the shelves of large retailersAs reported by Kommersant with reference to “M.

Video-Eldorado“, in the first nine months of 2019, Russians spent about 7.3 billion rubles ($ 115 million) on game consoles. The growth in pieces was 10%, and in money — 6%.

The main driver of growth was the sale of retro consoles. In annual terms, they jumped by 75%. So now they have a quarter of the console market.

The most significant share of retro consoles came from pirated Dendy and Sega from Chinese manufacturers. They account for 18% of this segment.

The leader of sales among all consoles in Russia is Sony PlayStation 4. In second place in terms of the number of boxes sold are consoles from Nintendo. Closes the top three Xbox One leaders.

By the way, the cheaper cost of these consoles along with the release of their budget versions (Xbox One S without a disk drive and Nintendo Switch Lite) has become another important factor in the growth of the entire market.

As Kommersant also writes, sales of game consoles in Russia are growing for the second year in a row. Before that, there was a decline provoked by the collapse of the ruble exchange rate: if in the first nine months of 2014, sales of game consoles amounted to 5.7 billion rubles, then in 2016 they were at the level of 3.8 billion rubles.

By the way, the figures show that, despite the growth, the Russian game console market has not yet reached the pre-crisis level in dollars.
