In January-May, sales of Nintendo products on the Russian market for the first time were higher than those of Microsoft. This follows from the report of the group of companies “M.Video-Eldorado” for the first five months of 2019.
During these five months, 215 thousand consoles were sold in Russia. Their total cost is 3.9 billion rubles. The console segment in the Russian market grew in annual terms by 11% in units and 7.5% in money.
Nintendo’s Successes
- In January-May, for the first time in Russia, Nintendo managed to beat Microsoft in total sales of gaming products. The growth driver was Nintendo Switch sales;
- In May, Switch outpaced the Xbox One in sales;
- in five months, the demand for Switch has grown by 80% in pieces and by 60% in money. In May alone, console sales increased 2.5 times in units and 2.2 times in money (compared to May last year);
- The top five best-selling releases for Switch included: Super Mario Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario Party;
- Also, sales of Nintendo Labo kits and amiibo merchandise doubled in the chain’s stores (compared to January-May last year).
We add that Sony PlayStation 4 remains the leader of the console market in Russia. Its share of sales is 55% in pieces and 70% in money. The shares of Xbox One and Nintendo Switch are not specified by the group of companies.
