The Finnish gaming industry has slowed down after several years of rapid development.
According to a report by the industry association Neogames, the annual turnover of the Finnish gaming sector in 2016 amounted to €2.5 billion euros, which is €100 million more than in 2015.
The Finnish gaming market in 2016 increased by 4% compared to 2015, while in 2015 the industry grew by 33% compared to 2014.
The number of new studios has also decreased. In 2016, 16 gaming companies opened in Finland — the lowest figure since 2009. Since 2010, 25 to 55 gaming startups have been launched annually in the country.
Also, for the first time, the number of operating companies decreased. In 2016, about 20 companies closed in Finland. There are about 250 working game studios left in Suomi.
In total, about 2,750 people are employed in the Finnish gaming industry, 50 more than in 2015. 280 new jobs are planned to be created in the industry this year.
