ACHIEVERS HUB and UNIT companies.City has released a guide to the Ukrainian gaming industry. It reveals such questions as: how many gaming teams are there in the country, where are they located, what sources of funding are they using? We provide a brief version of the material.
There are at least 80 game studios on the territory of Ukraine
According to the report, there are at least 80 game studios operating in the country. A total of 72 companies were surveyed during the survey. Every tenth was launched during the last year.
This indicates that the market is developing, there is interest in it.

Most of the studios in Ukraine are located in Kiev. It contains 40% of the offices of gaming companies. The second largest city in terms of the number of teams is Odessa, but it is only a few studios ahead of Dnipro and Kharkiv.

The majority of companies, 74%, have their head offices in their home country.
However, there are enough of those whose headquarters are located abroad. 6% of respondents have managers in the USA, another 5% in Israel. Only 1% of companies announced the presence of a head office in Russia.

76% of Ukrainian gaming teams finance themselves
On the territory of Ukraine, most of the gaming teams are self-sufficient. Only 10% are funded from the outside. Of these, 3% attracted the money of industrial investors, and the rest — non-core. Another 14% of Ukrainian teams have a mixed type of financing. They use both their own capital and investments, and money from crowdsourcing in their work.

“In recent years, the market situation has been changing: foreign investors and partners are starting to look at our country not only as a source of cheap production capacity, but also as a creative center,” Elena Lobova, founder of ACHIEVERS HUB, an indie team support service, noted in the report.
80% of Ukrainian studios make mobile games
Most of the surveyed teams have three main platforms: Android, iOS and desktop. At the same time, more than a quarter of respondents said that they are developing games for consoles.

On the territory of Ukraine, most of the gaming teams, 69%, create their own products.
However, there are many among them who specialize in autoring. 37.5% of respondents ranked themselves among the latter. A quarter said they are indie developers.

18 of the surveyed studios noted that they have more than ten released projects in their portfolio. However, the bulk are those that have released from two to five products.
Number of games released by Ukrainian companies
The most popular technology for development among Ukrainian teams is Unity.
It is used by 69% of the surveyed developers. The second place is shared by a significant margin from the leader Unreal Engine and HTML5. Many parts of the company are still in development using their own solutions. These turned out to be among the respondents 27%.
