Google failed to compete with Twitch. The search giant closes YouTube Gaming as a separate platform and transfers it to the YouTube platform with the preservation of all functionality.

Recall that YouTube Gaming was launched by Google in 2015 as a response to Amazon’s purchase of the Twitch gaming broadcast service. That’s just over the years of support, comparable success with the latest YouTube Gaming has not achieved.

Despite not the most joyful news, Google presents it as a victory. The company stated that it has always been focused on developing tools that would be in demand by the gaming audience. And since all the innovations (game pages, super chat, channel membership, dark theme, and so on) were enthusiastically received by YouTube Gaming users, Google decided to make this a common YouTube standard.

A separate YouTube Gaming application will cease to be supported from March next year. The platform itself has already moved to a new address youtube.com/gaming . This is a YouTube channel “Video Games” with broadcasts and selections of videos on gaming topics. At the time of writing, the number of subscribers of the channel is 78 million people. For comparison, a year ago Twitch announced that its audience is 185 million viewers.
