In San Francisco, Epic Games announced a change in the Unreal Engine 4 monetization model . Starting today, access to the code of one of the leading game engines costs $19 per month.

For this amount, almost the entire source code of the engine written in C++ will be open to subscribers. However, it will be impossible to develop console games with its help. According to the founder of Epic Games Tim Sweeney, it’s about the NDA signed by his company. However, no one will interfere with developing next-generation PC games. Also, the Epic toolkit will allow you to make projects for iOS and Android.

Developers who have access to the engine will also be required to pay its authors 5% of the revenue that the game will bring. By revenue, we mean not only distribution sales, but also IAP, and even advertising.
