All major events in Germany will be postponed until August 31, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday. This means that one of the main gaming exhibitions of the year — Gamescom 2020 — will not take place.
According to Gamasutra, Gamescom organizers took into account the probability of cancellation in advance. Even before the official announcement of the authorities, they promised to reimburse the cost of tickets. After Merkel’s statement, Gamescom organizers confirmed on Twitter that they would organize an online event instead of a public one.
Initially, Gamescom 2020 was supposed to be held in Cologne on August 25-29. This event is one of many canceled due to the coronavirus. The pandemic has already prevented conferences such as GDC 2020, E3, Google‘s I/O and Facebook‘s F8.
