Google‘s biggest tech conference — I/O 2020 — is canceled. As in the case of Facebook and Informa events, the cause was coronavirus.
“Due to concerns related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), in accordance with health recommendations from the CDC, WHO and other health organizations, we have decided to cancel the offline I/O meeting,” Google said.
This year’s event was scheduled for May 12-14. Ticket sales have already been opened, but Google promises to make all the refunds by March 13. In addition, all ticket holders for the cancelled conference will be allowed to register for I/O 2021 in an extraordinary way.
Google is also considering “other ways to conduct Google I/O.” Perhaps the event will be held in a digital format. This is exactly what the company did with its Cloud Next presentation dedicated to the “cloud”. Instead of a public event, Google plans a free online broadcast, writes The Verge.
I/O is an annual developer conference where the Internet giant, among other things, announces its projects. These include new versions of the Android OS, updates to AdMob and other Google services, VR development, and various applications.
