Today, March 26, Epic Games announced a new initiative. It’s called Epic Games Publishing. Within its framework, the company is going to independently bring third-party games to the market. Among the first partners: genDESIGN, Playdead and Remedy Entertainment.

As a publisher, Epic Games promises developers:

  • full creative freedom and IP rights;
  • full project financing (the publisher will cover all development costs: from developer salaries to marketing and localization);
  • dividing profits by 50% (after the project pays for itself, developers receive from 50% of all profits).

We are building a publishing model, according to which we always wanted to work with publishers,” Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, said in connection with the announcement of the initiative.

Recall that genDESIGN is a Japanese studio known for the PS4 exclusive The Last Guardian (on the cover of the news), which has been in development for about 9 years. Playdead is a Danish company that has released two iconic platformers — Limbo and INSIDE. As for Remedy, this is a Finnish studio, famous primarily for the Max Payne series and the Alan Wake game.
