Epic Games has acquired Cloudgine, a Scottish company that develops video games using cloud technologies and VR support, for an unspecified amount.
As a result of the transaction, Cloudgine came under full control and became a subsidiary of Epc Games.
As noted by Dana Cowley, senior marketing manager at Epic Games, Cloudgine cloud technologies “will expand creative opportunities when creating games, movies, animation and visualization of developers working with Unreal Engine 4.”
Cloudgine was founded in 2013. Cloudgine is currently working on They Came From Space, a multiplayer action game with VR headset support. The project is executed on the UE4 engine.
The presence of a virtual reality helmet gives players control over a huge alien tripod, while gamers without VR systems are assigned a more modest role of flying saucer pilots.
Gaming calculations in They Came From Space are conducted on Cloudgine cloud servers.
According to Cloudgine co-founder Dave Jones, his company wants to accelerate the introduction of new technologies.
Before working on They Came From Space, the company created an interactive Toy Box demo for the Oculus Rift VR headset in 2016. In addition, Cloudgine, together with local studios Reagent Games and Sumo, are involved in the development of the Crackdown 3 action game for Xbox One.
