Yahoo Japan has launched the Game Plus game portal for mobile platforms and PC. It supports HTML5 games and cloud streaming of games.

The portal allows you to play free and paid HTML5 games in the browser of your phone or home computer.

Cloud technologies also make it possible to run “heavy” games on Game Plus servers, but it is still unclear whether it will be possible to play console titles of the Final Fantasy XIII level from mobile devices.

52 gaming companies have already agreed to place titles on Game Plus, among them Koei Tecmo and Square Enix. The latter presents a new role-playing strategy Antique Carnivale on the Yahoo Japan platform.

There are currently 39 games available on Game Plus.

Yahoo Japan is not the only Japanese company launching its own HTML5 portal this year. Rakuten, in partnership with developer Blackstorm, introduced the social gaming platform R Games in April 2017.

More and more HTML5 gaming platforms are emerging. Facebook has its own, VK promises to launch an analogue soon. Do you believe that HTML5 can become the new Flash within the gaming industry?
