Corona is now not partially, but completely free game development engine.

This was announced on the evening of June 22 by the developer of the Corona Labs engine.

Corona is a cross–platform engine that supports iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. The engine is built in the Lua programming language.

Previously, Corona had two versions. The first is the free, but limited in functionality Corona SDK, which, for example, did not allow you to create offline builds. The second was the paid Corona Enterprise, which removed various limitations of the basic product and had additional tools.

Now both SDK and Enterprise versions are distributed as a single product under the name Corona. It removes commissions from project revenues and limits on the amount of revenue.

Corona Labs plans to earn money on:

  • premium support (private channels in Slack, special attention to requests from the team, and so on);
  • on the plugin for removing the loading screen with the engine logo;
  • as a percentage of Corona Marketplace sales, where developers sell content and plugins for the engine;
  • on free plugins for monetization of games through advertising.

Recall that the monetization platform Appodeal became the owner of the engine in March of this year.
