According to insider information, the Shanghai branch of Crytek is closed due to lack of money to pay for the rental of premises.

Daniel Ahmad, an industry analyst at Niko Partners, announced the studio’s plight on Twitter. He added that Crytek Shanghai employees have not received money for their work since September last year.

His words are confirmed by a review of his work at Crytek Shanghai on the recruiting resource Glassdoor dated April 4, 2017. The author of the review indicated that he worked in the studio as a designer.

According to him, the staff was not paid for 7 months. The management has repeatedly promised to give salaries to employees, but each time it deceived them.

According to Ahmad, about 20 people worked there at the time of the studio’s closure.

Last December, Crytek announced the closure of five offices in China, Hungary, South Korea, Turkey and Bulgaria due to financial problems.

Apparently, despite the fact that the company planned to close the Shanghai office, it worked at least until September.
