The Gaming Commission of the Belgian government has launched an investigation into the online shooters Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Overwatch. She can equate both titles to gambling because of the presence of loot boxes in them.
The director of the Gaming Commission, Peter Naessens, in an interview with the local VTM News confirmed that the subject of the proceedings is the game mechanics, which gives the user a random reward in exchange for the money paid.
If Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Overwatch are recognized as gambling games, their publishers, represented by EA and Blizzard, will be fined, and their games will be withdrawn from sale in Belgium.
Recall that last month the international rating organizations ESBR, PEGI and Ukie refused to recognize loot boxes as a form of gambling.
At the same time, the UK Parliament promised to better understand the problem of loot boxes after a popular online petition that gathered more than 14 thousand signatures.
