The Autodesk toolkit has become available at a reduced price in a number of regions for a limited period.

At the SIGGRAPH 2019 conference currently taking place in Los Angeles, Autodesk made a sudden announcement. She said that she is ready to provide Maya and 3ds Max at a reduced price to those artists whose annual salary is less than $ 100 thousand.

Now an annual subscription to each of the tools costs specialists $1,545. An indie license will cost six times cheaper – $250 for 12 months of use.

But there is a caveat: so far the initiative applies only to five countries — the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Great Britain and Australia. Since the program is declared a “pilot”, it is unclear whether it is worth waiting for the expansion of its geography.

In addition, it is stated that this is a temporary offer. In other words, it may not be possible to extend it next year.

The announcement of the indie license took place against the background of no less loud news. The other day, Ubisoft announced that its Ubisoft Animation Studio division will use Blender, a free open source 3D modeling tool, to work.
