Apple has responded to Epic Games’ lawsuit with a new 37-page document. The company believes that the Fortnite developers themselves “lit a fire and splashed gasoline into it,” and started the trial as a PR campaign.In its appeal, Apple insists that the current situation was the fault of Epic itself.

The company once again stressed that it is ready to return Fortnite to the App Store — it is enough just to start following the agreements again.

According to Apple, Epic’s actions literally “hold their customers hostage in order to gain leverage in a business dispute.” The Apple company also stressed that only 10% of Fortnite’s audience is on the iPhone.

Thus, Epic Games greatly exaggerate their financial losses. Apple also believes that the popularity of battle royale continues to fall, and such actions by Epic may be part of a well-thought-out PR strategy.

In July 2020, interest in Fortnite decreased by almost 70% compared to October 2019. This lawsuit (and the headlines it generates) appears to be part of a marketing campaign to revive interest in Fortnite.

A full court hearing is scheduled for September 28. After deleting the developer account, Epic Games was deprived of the opportunity to update its games on iOS. The companies exchanged lawsuits, and other large companies like Facebook and Microsoft joined the public discussion of the situation.
