There is a new twist in the case of Epic Games against Apple. This time Apple has put forward counter claims to the creator of Fortnite. At the same time, she accused Epic of trying to impersonate Robin Hood, being a multibillion-dollar company.
A few days have passed since Epic sent a new appeal to the court with a request to prohibit Apple from deleting Fortnite and acting in any other way against the company during the proceedings. But now the developers themselves have received a counterclaim, in which they were accused of intentionally violating the rules of the App Store.
“Epic’s lawsuit is nothing more than a disagreement over money,” Apple said in a statement.“Although Epic pretends to be a modern corporate Robin Hood, in fact it is a multibillion-dollar company that simply does not want to pay for the benefits it receives from the App Store.”
Apple notes that Epic earned $600 million through the App Store and in April 2020 thanked for the support and promotion of Fortnite on the platform. But this did not prevent the developers from “attracting a legion of lawyers, publicists and technical specialists to organize a covert attack on the App Store.”
In the lawsuit, Apple asks to prohibit the use of Epic’s own payment system in iOS products, refund the money that Fortnite received through this system bypassing the App Store, and pay a fine. The exact amount of the amount is not called.
