A month after the announcement, the Luna cloud gaming service became available to a limited number of users. So far, you can enter the platform only by invitation, and play only in the titles of the main channel.

Yesterday afternoon, Amazon announced in its blog about the launch of the beta version of Luna. According to the company, the project team “was overwhelmed by the reaction and received hundreds of thousands of requests for early access.” However, at the moment, only a small group of players from the USA will be able to participate in testing the service.

This is a temporary solution. Other players will also receive invitations in the coming months. The corporation claims that it needs feedback from “players of all stripes — advanced, inexperienced and beginners.”

Such feedback is already being received. The first reviews of players who have already familiarized themselves with the service appeared on the network.

Below are some of them.

For a stable picture, you will need an Internet connection with a speed of at least 25 Mbit/s, a computer with a wired connection and a controller. Under such conditions, the streaming of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was practically no different from the usual game. But Metro: Exodus, the game with the most sophisticated graphics on the service, looked much worse than if it had been launched on a decent PC. To be honest, it doesn't look very good either in Luna or in Stadia, but at least in Stadia you won't be slowed down by the mouse and keyboard. Regardless of the quality, games load quickly in Luna.

I don't have a Fire TV, so I could play either through the Google Chrome browser or through an application that weighs only 80 MB. I tried both options and didn't find much difference between them. The current library contains a decent amount of indie with a couple of high-budget games. To begin with, I chose Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, and when I first launched it, the game immediately crashed. I took it as a bad sign, but it was just an accident. Then the signal was always clear and clear... So far I am very impressed with what I saw.

In general, cloud games work very well. But apparently there is no online multiplayer here? It seems strange for a streaming service... And if you compare it with Stadia, then at the time of launch there were fewer games, but they were better. Luna = quantity, Stadia = quality.

It is worth noting that at the early access stage, Luna’s content is somewhat limited compared to the stated one. For example, the Ubisoft channel does not work. However, the company promises to launch it soon and add there, among other things, a novelty of the studio — Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

Instead, gamers can still subscribe to the main channel of the service — Luna + for $5.99 per month. Now there are about 50 titles in resolution up to 4K and FPS 60, but over time there will be more.

You can play on the service using the mouse, keyboard and Bluetooth controller. Amazon also separately offers its own controller for $49.99.

At the moment, Luna is launched on PC, Mac, Fire TV, iPhone and iPad platforms. In the future, it will also work on Android devices.
