Mobile games may be despised by a certain group of players. At the same time, it would be a mistake to assume that only a casual audience plays in them. As the analytical company EEDAR insists in its research, the most avid gamers also do not deny themselves this pleasure.
The company found out this as a result of a large-scale survey. EEDAR interviewed more than 5 thousand American gamers. The sample was divided into two age groups — from 2 to 17 years (interviewed through parents) and from 18 years and older.
According to the survey, analysts identified six groups of gamers. One of them can just be described as hardcore or avid. We are talking about players for whom games are the main hobby. They spend an average of 26 hours a week on it.
This is not the most common group of players. Only 13% of the gaming audience can be attributed to such gamers. These are mainly men (64%) aged 25-26 years. By the way, the average age of a gamer among the entire playing audience of the USA is 32 years old.
In addition to the large amount of time that hardcore players devote to their hobby, they are characterized by the fact that, unlike other groups, they do not specialize in one platform. 78% of them play three at once.
The most curious thing is that among them two types of devices are equally popular for the game — mobile and PC.
However, as the GamesIndustry publication notes, which just got access to the results of the study, mobile is not a replacement for PC or console for avid gamers. They perceive mobile projects as an “addition” to their main gaming experience.
The reason why avid gamers play mobile titles is not the graphics or the plot, but the opportunity to play for free or for an insignificant amount anywhere. It is also important that at the same time you can do something else and the game can be postponed at any time.
