Red 5 Studios has stopped working on the team MMO shooter Firefall for the sake of developing its mobile version.

The developers promised to “reward Firefall fans well in the new game” as compensation for the closure of the project.

Red 5 Studios was founded by former World of Warcraft developers in 2006. Released in 2014, the MMO shooter Firefall in a sci-fi setting became their first and only project.

In 2010, The9, a Chinese developer and operator of online games, acquired a 63.4% stake in Red 5 Studios for $20 million.

At the end of 2015, the company began layoffs of employees and salary delays.

In July 2016, the Red 5 development team was laid off in its entirety. Firefall servers continued to work, but did not register new players.

A few months earlier, it turned out that The9 had exchanged 31% of its stake in Red 5 for 153 million shares of L&A International Holding Limited, a company from the Cayman Islands engaged in the production of textile products.
