Monolith Production company has warned about the imminent shutdown of microtransactions in the role-playing thriller Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. By mid-July, loot boxes, premium currency and an online store will disappear from the game.
The developers explained that the additional monetization undermines one of the key mechanics of their game called Nemesis System.
The essence of the latter is that the gamer has to interact with NPC orcs in the course of the game in order to gain their authority and attract them to his side.
The presence of loot boxes allowed you to ignore this part of the game and just buy yourself powerful allies in the store.
“The realization that they are available for purchase reduces immersion in the world and deprives you of a challenge when creating a personal army and arranging fortresses,” Monolith representatives wrote in a blog.
The opportunity to buy premium game gold will disappear on May 8, and the elimination of loot boxes and the store is scheduled for July 17. If the players have not spent their gold reserves by this time, it is automatically converted into game items.
Recall that Middle-Earth: Shadow of War was released at the end of last year. The game was criticized due to the presence of loot boxes during the international controversy that unfolded after the release of the online shooter Star Wars: Battlefront II.
But compared to Battlefront II, the Monolith title avoided most of the negativity and received good reviews from players and the press.
