The British studio Jagex has changed its owner for the third time. The authors of RuneScape have moved under the leadership of an investment firm Carlyle Group. It is unknown how much the investors paid. But the media suggest that the deal cost at least $530 million. That’s how much the studio was bought for last time.

One of the oldest MMORPGs — RuneScape — is gaining popularity. Thanks to this, the income of the Jagex developer has been growing for the fifth year. In 2019, the company earned a record $137.6 million.

The British studio Jagex, known for RuneScape, has changed its owner. A Chinese group of companies sold it along with another asset to an American fund. The deal cost the Americans $530 million.

For 17 years of its existence, the MMORPG RuneScape from Jagex Ltd has earned $800 million. During this time, 250 million people have registered in the game.

Three veterans of the gaming industry joined the British studio Jagex, which created one of the oldest role—playing MMO – Runescape. The staff of Jagex includes Ben Clarke, Steven Tarry and Steve Wilson.

The authors of the browser-based role-playing MMO game Runescape from the Jagex studio have announced the release of two versions of their work on mobile platforms in the near future.

The documentary “RuneScape: 15 Years of Adventure” was posted on the official channel of the game on April 9. The release of the picture is timed to the 15th anniversary of the game.

The British Jagex, known by MMO RuneScape, became part of the young Zhongji Holding, owned by Shanghai Zhongji Enterprise Group, which also owns the Shandong Hongda Mining company.
