American teenagers are spending more and more on video games. One of the main reasons is Fortnite.

These are the results of the research of the investment company Piper Jaffray. She publishes a report every six months on what the pocket funds of teenagers from the USA are used for.

According to the latest study, one of the main items of expenditure for male teenagers is video games. Interactive digital entertainment accounts for 14% of their annual budget.

This share includes both purchases of the games themselves and consoles, as well as making micropayments. This is about $364 per year, considering that the average annual total spending of American teenagers is $ 2,600.

Compared with the data for the autumn of last year, the guys had a 3 percentage point increase in gaming expenses. At the end of 2018, only 11% of their pocket money went to games.

One of the growth drivers was Fortnite. At the same time, according to Piper Jaffray, we are not talking about the cannibalization of the revenue of other games by the project. On the contrary, the game contributes to the expansion of the gaming audience. 15% of the guys surveyed said that they had never played video games before Fortnite.

In the course of the study, analysts of the investment company interviewed several tens of thousands of teenagers, whose average age is 16 years.
