Apple’s policy regarding HTML5 programs continues to tighten. The other day, the company reminded about updating the list of requirements for such applications.

In June, Apple supplemented the requirements for applications that contain or run code that is not written into their binary. Recall that the innovation affected rule 4.7. Three new paragraphs were added to it. Now software that is not allowed is:

  • gives access to real money games, lotteries and charitable donations;
  • does not adhere to the App Review Guidelines (including includes controversial content);
  • supports e-commerce.

On September 6, Apple announced that all new applications awaiting the appruva must meet these requirements. Previously released applications must be brought to them by March 3, 2020.

This is a great step to reduce the number of gray apps in the App Store. Many illegal applications embedded html or iframe (especially casinos and slots, which were submitted for verification as completely different applications).

Earlier, the company has already formed rules regarding HTML5 applications. In particular, it was clarified that such programs are allowed only if:

  • the software uses the features available within the framework of standard WebKit browsing (that is, it must be run natively in Safari without modifications or installation of additional software);
  • The software is provided by developers who have joined the Apple Developer Program and signed the Apple Developer Program License Agreement.
